Hotel Regina, Mürren BE

Hotel Regina, Mürren BE

The mountain hotel was built in 1895 in the early Heimatstil and extended in 1909 in the Art Nouveau style. Beneath its striking mansard hipped roof, the building’s structure has remained largely unchanged to this day. Inside, there is significant historical décor, including the dining room with its original ceiling chandeliers. Since 2014, this architecturally significant testament to early Swiss tourism history has been managed and maintained by Hotel Regina Mürren A.G. This initiative has set itself the goal of preserving the hotel’s unique atmosphere whilst developing it sustainably.

Our Questions

  • What do less snow, frequent cycles of frost and thaw, and much heavier rainfall mean for a building in a vulnerable location in the mountains?
  • How can the initiative group, which has limited financial resources, assess the impacts of climate change and implement resilient strategies?
  • What can motivated supporters of the building achieve on their own, and where is expert input needed?
